Correction: Seabrook Island Utility Commission Phone Numbers

I stand corrected regarding the after-hours telephone number for the Seabrook Island Utility Commission (SIUC), which was listed incorrectly in the Exchange Club Phone Book.  We are not supposed to call the Security Gate when a Utility Commission problem occurs after hours. Below please find the corrected info on the SIUC.

Temporary Water Outage on Seabrook Island – Today, January 12th

There has been a problem with the Island’s water system late in the day in the Clear Marsh and Jenkins Point area.  The water has been turned off by the SI Utility Commission for a couple hours and they expect that it will be back on this evening.

Remember, when it’s after hours, calls for the SI Utility Commission should be directed to the Seabrook Island Security Gate.

Southern Living Magazine Highlights Area Beaches

seabrook-islandDid you miss seeing the advertisement In the January 2016 issue of Southern Living magazine, called Charleston, S.C., The Must-See Soul of the South?  It mentions the historic area and hotels with water views, but also highlights area beaches from Isle of Palms to Seabrook Island. The advertisement provides a website,  CharlestonAreaBeaches.com, which allows you to select your beach.  If you click on Seabrook Island, it takes you to lovely photos of our island with links to the Town of Seabrook Island, the Club, and vacation rental websites.

“Toys for Tots” Drop-Off at Seabrook Island Town Hall

There will be a “Toys for Tots” drop off at the Town Hall.

We will begin collecting toys after the Thanksgiving holiday. The toys should be unwrapped.

All Seabrookers are invited to attend our “Toys For Tots” Christmas Drop-In at the Seabrook Island Town Hall on December 10, 2015 from noon until 2 p.m.  Please bring your “Toys for Tots” donations.

Reminder: Town Election on Tuesday!

vote logoDon’t forget to vote on November 3 for Town officials.  Voting is at the Lake House from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm.  Bring a government issued photo identification.  Those elected will be sworn in on Friday, November 6 at 11:00 am at the Town Hall followed by tea and cookies.

High Tide Flood Warning Through Friday

High tides through Friday are expected to result in temporary flooding of local roadways, including Seabrook Island Rd. in the area between the SIPOA security gate and the traffic circle. Avoid driving in that area during flood tide. If you must drive, do not enter water of unknown depth.

Absentee Voting for Town Elections

Several people have asked how to vote absentee for our November 3, 2015 Seabrook Town elections.

Charleston County conducts and presides over the elections for the town, so the process is the same as if you needed to vote absentee for national or state elections.  You have to apply to receive an absentee ballot and then you do the actual voting.  This can be done in person or by mail.

If you want to do it in person, you must go to the Charleston County Election Office at 4367 Headquarters Road, Charleston, SC to complete an application and cast your ballot. This can be done up to 5:00 pm on the day before the election and you will still need a photo ID.

If you would rather do it by mail, you can get the application online at http://www.scvotes.org/2009/10/15/absentee_voting   or you can have the application mailed to you.

After filling out the application and signing it, you can return the application by mail, email, fax or take it up to Charleston County Election Office.  The Town of Seabrook office has kindly offered to fax the application to the County if necessary.  The deadlines for this are listed on the website.  At that point, you will receive an absentee ballot in the mail, which you will have to return either by mail or in person.  Again, check the deadlines for this.

COVAR Meeting Announcement and New Dog Beach Rules

The next COVAR meeting (Developing and Funding Reserves for Property and Landscaping Improvement for Associations/Regimes) will be Saturday, December 12 from 10 AM to 12 Noon at the Lake House.  All Seabrookers are welcome to attend.

It is with great pleasure that I announce the adoption on July 28 of Town of Seabrook Island (TOSI) Ordinance 2015-02, amending, updating and significantly strengthening Section 32 of the Town Code, Waterways and Beaches.  This event marks the achievement of a significant step in COVAR’s collaboration with TOSI and Seabrook Island Property Owners Association (SIPOA) in an effort to address Seabrook Island beach matters during the course of the last three plus years. Town of Seabrook Weather and Road Condition Update

At 9:00 am the National Weather Service in Charleston extended the flash flood warning until 3:30 pm (5 October). Local weather forecasts call for rain later today. The next Seabrook Island high tide is forecast to occur 5 October at 3:16 pm. The continuing rain can be expected to contribute to pooling on and flooding of roadways. AVOID DRIVING. IF YOU MUST DRIVE, DO NOT ENTER WATER OF UNKNOWN DEPTH.
