Republican Party Primary Election Results

Here are the results of the Republican Party Primary Election held on Tuesday at the Lake House between Jenny Horne or Mark Sanford for the position of U.S. Representative of SC District 1 in the General Election on November 8, 2016.
 
 The Seabrook Island Precinct results were:
 
     Jenny Horne         87  (46%)
     Mark Sanford       99  (54%)
 
 There are 354 Precincts voting in SC District 1 (including Seabrook).
 Here are the results for the complete district:
 
     Jenny Horne         16,818  (44%)
     Mark Sanford       21,112  (56%)
 
All absentee votes (including those from Seabrook) are included in the 354 Precincts total.

Accident on Main Road at Angel Oak May Cause Lane Closures

At 2:15 PM, Thursday June 16, Island shuttle driver Mike Gorski reported a bad accident on Main Road at the Angel Oak drive south of Maybank Highway. The possibility exists for closure of one or both lanes until it is cleared. Drivers headed inbound or outbound are advised to monitor traffic conditions and consider using River Road as an alternative in the near term.

GOMC Highlights, June 2016

GOMC met on June 6th, 2016. Here are the highlights of that meeting:

  1. Lake House: We are working on replacing one major air handler compressor which failed. Installation of energy-saving LED bulbs is continuing. Completion is due this week.
  2. Marsh Gate bulkhead: Riprap installation is proceeding on schedule to protect 4 properties along Cap’n Sams Creek.
  3. Stormwater pipe relining: The work is also on schedule. We have slightly changed the scope of work to include a pipe under Gnarled Pine.
  4. Roads, signs and mailboxes: Asphalt patching, mailbox painting and street signs are all done for this year. The Community Center parking lot has been resealed.
  5. Improved beach access: GOMC has been working with the Safety and Security Committee to define and fund limited improvements for people with special needs along Boardwalks #1 and #9. A motion to fund the proposal will go to the Board on Monday 20th.
  6. Gatehouse: The Greenery has submitted a proposal for new landscaping for Spring 2017; we liked their ideas, with some minor changes. The bid package for the new building will go out this week.

Seabrooker Completes the Beaufort River Open Water Swim

Fellow Seabrooker, Derek Fyfe, completed the Beaufort River open water swim last Saturday (June 11th). The race was 3.2 miles in challenging conditions compared to the Lowcountry Splash, Charleston’s open water swim which was held a week earlier on June 4th, and is 2.4 miles.  Congratulations Derek!Derek

Music on the Green: Chris Crosby Band – June 17th

Music on the Green at Freshfields Village

Chris Crosby Band offers a diversity of music styles, including acoustic, folk, jazz, rock, country, beach, and Motown.  Chris loves and finds inspiration from all types of music. His older pop favorites include Steely Dan, Elton John, and Michael McDonald. Newer artists he likes include Bruno Mars, John Mayer, and Ryan Adams. Vigil Tonight at 7pm to Remember the Orlando Victims

Local organizations are hosting a vigil at 7pm on Monday June 13 at the Charleston Visitors Center Bus Shed to remember the victims of of the massacre in the Orlando nite club targeting LGBT people, the largest mass shooting in American history. Local religious leaders, Charleston’s mayor, police chief and others will speak at the event.

Backpack Buddies Teams up with the Children’s Fishing Tournament

What a fun morning spent at Bohicket Marina this past Wednesday for the kickoff of this season’s Children’s Fishing Tournament.  Thanks to our volunteers on Wednesday morning – – Bob, Elison, Veronica, and Panky.  Volunteers are required each Wednesday morning through the end of the summer, between 8:15 and 11:30′ ish at Bohicket Marina. Volunteers sign the children in, give out wristbands and collect $7.00 for each competitor, and, of course, cheer the kids on.  A part of the proceeds goes directly to support the Seabrook Island Backpack Buddies.
