Christmas Holiday Hours

Holiday Hours for Christmas 2019 are as follows:

SIPOA Offices will close at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, December 24 and all day on Wednesday, December 25. They will be open for normal hours (8:00 am until 4:00 pm) on Thursday, December 26.

Contractor Hours
No contractor work on Tuesday, December 24 and Wednesday, December 25.

Town of Seabrook Island Offices will be closed on Wednesday, December 25 through Friday, December 27. They will open for normal hours (8:00 am until 4:00 pm) on Monday, December 30.

Harris Teeter will close at 7:00 pm on Christmas Eve, Tuesday, December 24 and be closed all day Christmas Day, Wednesday, December 25. They will reopen for normal hours at 8:00 am on Thursday, December 26.

The pharmacy at Vincent’s Drug Store will close Tuesday, December 24 at 2:00 pm and be closed all day Wednesday, December 25. They will reopen Thursday, December 26 for normal hours at 9:00 am.

Post and Computer Center will close Tuesday, December 24 at noon and be closed all day Wednesday, December 25. They will reopen Thursday, December 26 for normal hours at 9:00 am.

The Lake House will close at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, December 24 and remain closed all day Wednesday, December 25. There will be no access at all during this closure. The Lake House will reopen on Thursday, December 26 at 5:00 am for Property Owners with before/after-hours access and 8:00 am for guests.

The following fitness classes will be canceled:

Pilates class on Monday, December 23
All fitness classes on Tuesday, December 24, Wednesday, December 25 and Thursday, December 25.

Arrive in your favorite ride or stop by the Village Green to browse unique, antique and other cool cars at our monthly Cars & Coffee! Coffee and breakfast will be available for purchase at Java Java. The event is held the 3rd Saturday of every month.

Red Kettle Day & Holiday Canned Food Drive

We may not agree on everything, but we most likely can all agree that we are very fortunate to call Seabrook Island home. During the coming holiday season, we have opportunities to give to those who are not as fortunate. The following two ways to give are being sponsored and/or supported by COVAR. We are asking for your support, as well, and encourage you to pass the word to your property owners.

Salvation Army Red Kettle Day at Harris Teeter December 12, 2019, from 9:00 am. to 6:00 pm. What a wonderful way to give back and celebrate this holiday season.

The Salvation Army provides a broad range of services to those in need. Every dollar you donate returns 82 cents to The Salvation Army program services. The average charity spends 75 percent of its budget on programs, while the remaining money goes to cover overhead costs like fundraising.

The 9:00 am. to 6:00 pm volunteer period is separated into hour shifts. Each shift needs to be ‘manned” by two volunteers to ring the bell. To sign up for an hour shift, go to registertoring.com,
put COVAR in the group box. It should take you to a “select shift screen” and the “down arrow” shows available shifts.
Select your shift and the rest of the prompts will register you as a volunteer and allow you to get a text notification.
Each volunteer must sign up for the shift separately and
you can opt-out of receiving additional information about the Salvation Army.

Holiday Canned Food Drive at The Lake House now through December 10, 2019. The Holiday Canned Food Drive was initiated in 2016. In the first three years, the total amount of food has increased from almost 3,000 pounds in 2016 to approximately 7,000 pounds in 2018! Remarkable, right? The goal for 2019 is 7,500 pounds.

All food will, as in previous years, be donated to local organizations through the Sea Islands Hunger Awareness Foundation – approximately 95% of the food will remain on Johns Island or in Wadmalaw, and the balance will be distributed to families on James Island.

As many as 4,000 families in our area struggle with hunger.
Approximately 90% of the children in Johns Island and Wadmalaw live below the poverty line, so what better time to help more of our neighbors than during the holiday season?

Don’t forget, please bring canned foods only and be sure to check the expiration dates on all your cans before donating. Protein like tuna, salmon, and chicken, and complete meals like hearty soup, stew, and chili are especially appreciated. Please bring your contributions to The Lake House and place them behind the pillar under the “New Donations” sign. They will be weighed and then added to our total.

Holiday Hours for Thanksgiving 2019 are as follows:

SIPOA Offices will be closed all day on Thursday, November 28, and Friday, November 29. They will open for normal hours (8:00 am until 4:00 pm) on Monday, December 2. Trash, recycling and yard debris will be picked up as normal on Monday, December 2.

Guests are invited to bring their furry friends to the Village for a Pet Expo and Wine Tasting benefiting local animal rescues. The Pet Expo is free and family-friendly with activities including an adoptable meet & greet with local rescue groups, pet vendors, a dog costume contest, wine tasting and live music.

Drug-Take Back Day October 26, 2019

Once again, Vincent’s Drug Store, in partnership with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Department, will be participating in the DEA’s Annual Campaign to properly dispose of unneeded medications. Bring your unused medications to the store for proper disposal on Saturday, October 26, 2019, from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm.

This is the time to check your medicine cabinet for unused or expired prescriptions. Not only are they taking up space, but they can be harmful if someone else, other than whom they were prescribed for, accidentally takes them.

The problem is how to dispose of them. Throwing them in the trash is obviously not the solution. Once they are in the landfill, they can be picked up by people or animals. Flushing them down the drain can pollute the water system.

The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is a safe way to dispose of these prescription drugs. The April 2019 Take-Back Day brought in 937,443 pounds (468.72 tons) of unused or expired prescription medication.

Freshfields Village: Music on the Green – October 11

A special edition of Music on the Green returns on October 11 from 6 to 9 pm ahead of the holiday weekend. This family-friendly, outdoor concert will feature The Maxx performing classic hits and today’s Top 40. The concert is free and guests are encouraged to bring a beach chair or blanket.

Reminder: Freshfields Single-Use Plastics Ban

As you may already know, the Town Council of Kiawah Island has passed an ordinance banning single-use plastic bags, plastic straws, and styrofoam. This went into effect on Sunday, September 8, 2019 and applies to Harris Teeter and the other shops in Freshfields. To read the complete ordinance, click here.

NOTE: The free, reusable cloth bags previously found at the Freshfields Village Farmer’s Market are not available anymore since the Monday Farmer’s Market is now finished for the season.

Reminder – Freshfields Single-Use Plastics Ban

As you may already know, the Town Council of Kiawah Island has passed an ordinance banning single-use plastic bags, plastic straws, and styrofoam. It will go into effect this Sunday, September 8, 2019.

Freshfields Village is a part of the Town of Kiawah Island, so all the facilities in the village will have to adhere to this new policy. This includes Harris Teeter, which like the other shopping and dining facilities, encourage the use of reusable bags. They will continue to provide recyclable paper bags.

Freshfields Village is giving away free reusable bags on Mondays during the Farmers Market between 4:00 pm and 9:00 pm.

Labor Day 2019 Weekend Holiday Hours

Holiday hours for the Labor Day Weekend 2019 are as follows:

SIPOA Offices will be closed all day on Monday, September 2. They will open for normal hours (8:00 am until 4:00 pm) on Tuesday, September 3. Trash, recycling and yard debris will be picked up as normal on Monday, September 2.

Town of Seabrook Island Offices will be closed all day on Monday, September 2. They will open for normal hours (8:00 am until 4:00 pm) on Tuesday, September 3.

Harris Teeter will be open all weekend, including Labor Day, with normal hours.

Vincent’s Drug Store & Soda Fountain

The pharmacy will be closed on Monday, September 2, and reopen on Tuesday, September 3, for normal hours (9:00 am until 6:30 pm.) Note that their normal hours on Saturday are from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm and they are closed on Sunday.
The retail store and soda fountain will be open Monday, September 2 from 11 am until 4 pm.

Post and Computer Center will be closed all day on Monday, September 2. They will open for normal hours (9:00 am until 6:00 pm) on Tuesday, September 3.

The Lake House will be open for normal hours.
