Rip Current Warning

Great weather for the beach does not always mean it is safe to swim in the ocean! Choppy, high waves may indicate rip currents, but they often form on calm, sunny days as well.

We are currently in a High Risk Level. Life threatening rip currents are likely. The surf zone is dangerous for all levels of swimmers. To check the risk level in the future, go to weather.gov by clicking here.

Rip currents occur when waves break near the shoreline and/or sandbars, piling up water between the breaking waves and the beach or sandbar. The water going out to the ocean moves very fast, thus causing the rip current.

It is important not to go into the ocean when there is a rip current warning!

Cooper River Bridge Run April 6

The Cooper River Bridge Run is an annual 10 kilometer (6.2 mi), one-way road-running event across the Arthur Ravenel, Jr. Bridge held in the cities of Mount Pleasant and Charleston on the first Saturday in April. The Bridge Run is the only competition in South Carolina sanctioned by USA Track and Field as an elite event. Based on the number of race finishers, the event is the third-largest 10K and the fifth largest road race in the United States.

This year will mark the 47th Anniversary of the Cooper River Bridge Run. This is a race for everyone – all the way from serious runners to walkers. Mark April 6, 2024 on your calendar.

Even though the race is downtown, the Health & Wellness Expo is at the Charleston Area Convention Center in North Charleston on Thursday, April 4 and Friday, April 5. You can pick up your race packet there as well as see what is new in the running/walking world that the vendors and sponsors will be displaying. On race day, Marion Square is the place to be for the Finish Festival from 8:00 am until noon for entertainment, vendors, and refreshments.

Click here for information and registration.
