“End of the Rainbow” Play Opens April 28th in N. Charleston

end of rainbow playEnd Of The Rainbow, based on true accounts of the final months in the life of Judy Garland opens for a run from April 28th through May 15th at the Midtown Theatre in North Charleston.

The time is 1968. After a string of failures, Judy Garland at age 46 returns to London for a 5-week comeback run at the “Talk of the Town” nightclub, where she reconnects with her long-time faithful friend and favorite pianist, Anthony Chapman. Garland hopes that this series of concerts will help maintain her star profile, especially considering a recent bout of bad press against her. She is traveling with her new (and younger) fiancé, Mickey Deans. Continue reading ““End of the Rainbow” Play Opens April 28th in N. Charleston”

Meet Your Tidelines Staff: Shawna Jarrett

Shawna Jarrett portraitShawna Jarrett is the only person directly involved with Tidelines who is a paid member of the SIPOA staff.  We at Tidelines very much appreciate that the SIPOA gives us Shawna to help us keep going.  The truth is, we don’t know what we would do without her.

Shawna has been with the SIPOA for ten years and her job has a far reach.  As SIPOA Communications Administrator, she is responsible for the SIPOA website, so all those e-blasts you get come from Shawna, whose responsibilities include the design and editing of the site.

She is also responsible for photography and videography, including production and editing. Graphic design and copywriting is also a part of her milieu, including most of the association’s flyers, posters and brochures. She is also staff liaison to the Communications and Nominating Committees as well as several other SIPOA committees and task forces. Over the past year she has also handled the production and mixing of Tidecasting, the Tidelines podcast. She is one busy woman. Continue reading “Meet Your Tidelines Staff: Shawna Jarrett”

This week’s (5/1) movie:

THE NOTEBOOK

unnamed-4

Directed by Nick Cassavetes, this adaptation of author Nicholas Sparks’ bestselling novel revolves around Noah Calhoun’s (James Garner) regular visits to a female patron (Gena Rowlands) of an area nursing home. Rather than bore her with the inanities of everyday life, Calhoun reads from an old, faded notebook containing the sweeping account of a young couple (Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams) whose love affair was tragically put to a halt after their separation in the midst of World War II. Seven years later, the couple was reunited, and, despite having taken radically different paths, they found themselves unable to resist the call of a second chance.

Bohicket Marina Adding Mexican Restaurant May 5th

nacha mama'sThere is a new Mexican restaurant opening in Bohicket Marina called Nacha Mama’s Taqueria.  The grand opening is scheduled for May 5, or Cinco de Mayo, as the Mexicans say. They plan a full celebration of the opening by featuring a local band, Ben Fagan and the Holy City Hooligans. Their hours will be 11am to 10pm seven days a week. Their location is next door to Red’s.

The restaurant plans to do a modern take on Mexican food, which they describe as all about the drizzle, or sauces as we might know them.  There will be many types of sauces including buffalo types, spicy salsa, tomatillo sesame sauce, citrus mango sauce and lots of avocado. They will be serving tacos, nachos, ceviche, burritos and fajitas.

They plan to emphasize their various brands of tequila and will be featuring flights of tequila, even making suggestions as to pairing tequila with various kinds of food.

Dewey Delovich is partnering with Paul Ferrell in this effort. Paul has owned four restaurants, including J. Paul’z and The Loophole. They have already done two special events in the restaurant, which they consider practice runs before opening up to the public at large.

The restaurant is in the process of being redecorated.  One of the things that is being added is an ample waiting area, where people can get drinks and hors d’oeuvres while waiting for their table. They will not be taking reservations except for large parties.
