  • At all other times, trash cans must be placed in a location that is not plainly visible from the street
  • Yard waste (leaves, twigs, etc.) must be placed in sturdy paper bags or open-topped containers. Larger items (tree limbs, palm fronds, etc.) must be neatly stacked at the curb.
  • No street parking is allowed on the town-owned portion of Seabrook Island Road (the public portion of the roadway outside of the SIPOA Gate). Parking in yards is also not allowed. For a full list of detailed parking rules, click here.
  • For violations that are observed with trash cans or parking, officers are issuing white warning citations by taping them to the mailbox of the property at which the violation was observed. If officers observe that a specific property is a repeat offender, then it is within the right of the code enforcement officer to issue an ordinance summons. You can find the penalty fees here.

Weather and Rip Current Alert

Early on Friday, August 15, 2025, the first hurricane of the Atlantic 2025 season formed. Hurricane Erin is projected to slide up the East Coast beginning early this week.

Currently, the main threats to the Lowcountry will be very large waves, dangerous surf, and rip currents through the week. Beach erosion is also possible.

Over the coming days, you are encouraged to exercise caution and consider avoiding the water if conditions have worsened. Stay tuned to local weather forecasts before heading to the beach.

If you get caught in a rip current, stay calm. It won’t pull you under, but it will pull you away from the shore. Instead:

  • Float, or if you are a strong swimmer, swim parallel to the shore.
  • Yell for help to those on the shore.
  • If you see someone in distress in the water, call or text Beach Patrol at (843) 718-6083.
  • If you have something that floats, you can push this towards the person, but don’t attempt to rescue them yourself.

Update on Support Mt. Zion Kids!

We still need your help!

Typically, at this time of year, Support Mt. Zion Kids! sends out an appeal to help us purchase the requested classroom supplies to enhance the learning of Mt. Zion Elementary School students. We still need your help, but as you may be aware, Mt. Zion will no longer be used as an elementary school, and there have been some changes to the structure of the elementary schools on Johns Island.

  • Angel Oak Elementary is now called Angel Oak Primary School and will house children from Head Start through grade one. Anna Mims will be the principal, and most of the former Mt. Zion faculty will follow Ms. Mims to Angel Oak Primary.
  • Children from grades two through five will attend the new Johns Island Elementary School. The principal is Judith Condon, who served as the Angel Oak Elementary School principal. Several teachers from the Mt. Zion staff will be working in this new building. The school is located at 2950 Claybrook Street, which is located off River Road.

Currently, we will be helping with the library and counseling programs at Angel Oak and will explore ways to help the students and teachers at Johns Island Elementary. As programs develop, we will share how you can further support the children and families in need on Johns Island

The Support Mt. Zion Kids! name will remain, and we will retain the 501(c) (3) status. As always, we appreciate your support,

Support Mt. Zion Kids mtzionkids1@gmail.com.
