Tidelines Celebrates Third Anniversary

Happy Anniversary to Us!

Tidelines—the community blog of Seabrook Island—recently celebrated its third anniversary.  Since its launch in early 2014, it has gained 1,743 followers, posted 2,354 articles, and has become an indispensable part of Island communications. Property owners now receive e-mail notifications of new postings or make checking Tidelines part of their morning ritual.

On Monday, March 20th, the POA Board officially congratulated Tidelines on its third birthday and praised Tidelines for its important contribution to the Seabrook community.

The sequence of events that has brought Tidelines to this point is an interesting story of how experimentation, risk-taking, dedication, and effort combined to launch a product that continues to evolve as it serves its readers. Continue reading “Tidelines Celebrates Third Anniversary”

Tim the Tambourine Man

Most of you know Tim McBride, a fellow Seabrooker who also works at Harris Teeter in Freshfields.  He is the son of Bob and Jan McBride.

Tim McBride, the “Man About Town,” has always been a huge fan of country singer Toby Keith. For Christmas last year, his sister Kelly gave him tickets to attend a Toby Keith concert in Tampa Bay on March 9.

Tim flew down last week for the event with 3 different Toby Keith t-shirts, a “Big Dog Daddy” ball cap and his tambourine.

The day of the concert, Kelly’s significant other, Kyle, arranged for Tim, Kelly and Kyle to get some Meet and Greet passes. During the event, Tim had his tambourine and was obviously very excited about meeting Toby Keith.  According to Tim’s sister, when the photographer asked Tim to raise the tambourine in the air, Tim did it with gusto.  At that point Toby Keith said “Hey, let’s get that guy on stage.”

Once up there, Tim was really pumped and sang  “Red Solo Cup” and “Should’ve Been a Cowboy,”  right along with Toby Keith, all the while enthusiastically playing his tambourine.  He then remained onstage dancing as well as performing a tambourine solo.   He became known to the audience as Toby’s “my little tambourine man.”

Tim is now officially a real “rock star” and will never forget his moments of fame. Special thanks to Toby Keith,  who is a real hero.

How to Add Events from Tidelines to Your Calendar

One of the perennial requests from our readers is best expressed by this inquiry from Keith Ward: “… can we get [events] to automatically (with a keystroke) populate a calendar…?” A recent serendipitous discovery shows you can. Here’s how to add events from a Tidelines post received in Gmail to your Google calendar. Although tested on only a few other calendars, it worked with those tested. If you use an email service other than Gmail, try these directions and it may work for you as well.

In the Tidelines post, with your mouse, hover over the underlined date to see an “Add to Calendar” pop-up appear.

Click on the Add to Calendar block. Another pop-up appears.

This pop-up will allow you to create a new calendar entry. You can choose the date and add a time by clicking the dropdown icon.

You’ll also see other events on that day in your calendar so you’ll know if there is a potential conflict before you add it to your calendar. To add the event, click “Add to Calendar.”

COVAR Description and Functions

Leading up to and including COVAR’s March 11, 2017 Presidential Roundtable, the Council of Villa Associations and Regimes (COVAR) Board was frequently asked to describe COVAR and how it functions. This document responds to those requests.
COVAR consists of the forty-one villa associations and regimes in the Town of Seabrook Island. Its purposes are to (1) provide a regular forum for villa property owners to share and discuss common concerns, (2) collaborate with the Seabrook Island Property Owners Association (SIPOA) in matters of mutual responsibility and interest and (3) to provide a single official voice for villa property owners. Let’s Go Out to the Ball Game

The start of baseball season indicates the beginning of spring and it happens every year in Charleston with the RiverDogs Baseball Team.

The Charleston RiverDogs are in the class Single-A South Atlantic League and an affiliate of the New York Yankees.  They play in the Joseph P. Riley Stadium, also known as “The Joe.”  “The Joe” sits near the Ashley River and catches the breezes from the river and adjoining marshland.  It has been rated one of the best stadiums in the minor league and collegiate level (The Citadel Baseball Team plays there as well.)

The Home Opener is Thursday, April 6, 2017 against the Lexington Legends. Four things to know if you are going to “The Joe.”

  • Purchase your tickets online to avoid the long lines at the ticket window.
  • Sit on the First Base side, out of the sun.
  • Go with an empty stomach, the hotdogs are as good as you remember from your home team stadium.  They also have a wide selection of beers.
  • You might see Bill Murray there.  Not only is he an actor, but he is a co-owner of the RiverDogs as well as their Director of Fun.

For more information about the Riverdogs and their full schedule, go to their website http://www.milb.com/index.jsp?sid=t233

Smashing Success on the Courts for the BIFMC

Seabrook Island Tennis Players raised $4,747 for The Barrier Islands Free Medical Clinic at their annual fundraiser on Wednesday, March 8.   Co-Chairs Pat Tallman and Kathy Bruce organized an all-day event with men’s tennis matches in the morning and ladies’ play in the afternoon followed by a wine and cheese party and raffle to round out the day.

Dr. Charlton Davis, co-founder of the non-profit medical facility on Maybank Highway, and clinical staff members, Dr. Richard Ulmer, Brenda Falls and Wanda Lefler, provided the tennis players with updates on the variety of medical healthcare services provided by the physicians and nurses who volunteer at the clinic. Over “400+” patients from Johns, Wadmalaw and James Islands visit the clinic on a monthly basis and this number continues to grow. The staff members applauded the SI Tennis men and women for their generosity through the years, making it possible for the BIFMC to continue to care for the uninsured adults residing or working on our islands.

March 8th was a great day for the Barrier Islands Free Medical Clinic made possible by our island tennis community that “talked with their racquets and played with their hearts.”
