Celia Cerasoli Comes to Freshfields

We were delighted to hear that Celia Cerasoli, our Tidelines recipe columnists, has brought some of her own products to all sixteen Harris Teeter stores, which includes our own store in Freshfileds Village. She is selling four main products which include a marinara sauce, a caponata, a Mediterranean seasoning mix and a frozen lasagna.  All of theses products were available in her Charleston restaurant, which closed in 1999.  Everything is made with local ingredients in a kitchen approved by the Department of Agriculture.Celia

Her products are available on the local products shelf and in frozen foods.

Red, White, and Boom Tri It Kids Triathlon

The Tri It Kids Triathlon will be held on Sunday, July 3rd at 8:00 AM. This is a great introduction for kids 9 to 12 years old to a multisport event in a fun, positive environment. Participants will complete a 75-yard swim before moving on to the 1.6-mile bike and finishing up with afamily running 1-mile run.

The cost for the Tri It Kids Triathlon is $20.00.

Please note, this event will be capped and event shirt availability is limited, so sign up early to ensure you are part of our Tri It Kids Triathlon!

Roads Normal; Wind Threat Abating

A circuit of Seabrook Island Road this morning at 7 AM showed normal conditions all the way to the traffic circle at Freshfields Village. Some standing water on the bike/pedestrian path near the Town Hall entrance can be avoided by cutting through the Town’s parking lot.

The Island never experienced strong winds with this event. The storm is now moving rapidly away from the region. A National Weather Service bulletin posted at 05:49 AM this morning downgraded wind forecasts and cancelled the flash flood watch.

Tropical Storm Warning Posted; Flooding Likely

The combination of an approaching cold front and moisture being pulled into the Lowcountry from Tropical Storm Colin has triggered alerts for heavy rainfall and flooding in Charleston and coastal areas. Colin should pass near the South Carolina coast tonight into Tuesday morning. The National Weather Service has issued a Tropical Storm Warning in effect until June 9 at 11:10 EDT.

Depending on its track and intensity, Colin could produce tropical storm force winds of 25-35 mph with gusts to 55 mph, and rainfall totals of 3 to 6 inches with heavier amounts locally. Flash flooding is possible, especially in low lying areas that typically experience flooding during extreme rain events. The situation is somewhat favorable for isolated tornadoes and dangerous beach conditions, including high surf and rip currents.

Coming on the heels of a period of high tides, there is the potential for flooding on and around the Island depending on local rainfall totals. Readers are advised to monitor official sources for up-to-date information, and are encouraged to report exceptional conditions to Town and POA authorities, and Tidelines as well.

With the current King Tides upon us the following synopsis of Doug Marcy’s presentation on Earth Day at the Lake House is more than appropriate. Located at the Charleston NOAA office, Dr. Marcy is a national expert on sea level rise (SLR).

Island resident Dr. Barry Shedrow, our local Environmental Scientist took the time to interpret Marcy’s presentation into layman’s language and to add references for pertinent educational sites. Piccolo Spoleto Exhibit at the Charleston Museum

Plenty-ONuttin-sheet-musiJoin The Charleston Museum for an exclusive tour of the exhibit, I Got Plenty O’Nuttin: George Gershwin’s Charleston. This exhibit, in collaboration with Spoleto Festival USA’s presentation of Porgy and Bess, will only be on display from May 15 to July 31.

On June 9th, participants are invited to join the Museum for an after-hours viewing of I Got Plenty O’Nuttin, led by Archivist and Collections Manager, Jennifer McCormick and Chief Curator, Grahame Long. The exhibit, inspired by Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, will include images and etchings of 1930s Charleston, period textiles, as well as the piano that George Gershwin used when composing this opera. This special event, celebrating the 1934 masterpiece by Dubose Heyward, Ira Gershwin and George Gershwin, will begin with refreshments in the courtyard, followed by an up-close viewing of the exhibit and in-depth conversations with the attending curators.
