August 26 Update: Seabrook Island Master Plan

Seabrook Island Club, Seabrook Island Property Owners Association and the Town of Seabrook Island are working together to develop an aligned long term Master Plan for the community. If you missed reading the initial post “Introduction: Seabrook Island Master Plan,” click here.

The Master Plan Committee has received feedback that a number of people are not receiving the e-mails. Starting with this e-mail, we are using a larger distribution list (broader than the primary e-mail address listed per property). In addition, on the Master Planning website, anyone can add their e-mail address to the e-blast mailing list.

From August 19 – 21, Kuo Diedrich Chi (KDC) visited Seabrook Island. During that time KDC was able to visit all major sites on the island: The Island House, Pelican’s Nest, Racquet Sports facilities, Equestrian Center, Maintenance facilities, Lake House, Oyster Catcher Community Center, SIPOA buildings, Town Hall, and the pool areas at both the Club and SIPOA.

Introduction: Seabrook Island Master Plan

Seabrook Island Master Plan

SIC (Seabrook Island Club), SIPOA (Seabrook Island Property Owners Association) and the Town of Seabrook Island are working together to develop an aligned long-term Master Plan of how to best leverage the Island’s facilities, assets and services to cost-effectively meet the future needs of Seabrook Island.

To assist in the process, Kuo Dietrich Chi Architects (KDC) has been chosen as the Master Plan architect partner. Working with Wood+Partners (landscape architects and planners) and J Banks Design (interior design), this is a world class team with a long history of award-winning design throughout the low-country. One of the key reasons KDC was selected is the firm’s strong commitment to and experience with a member-centric approach to developing community master plans. The team will be on Island the Week of August 19 to start work on the project.

Regular updates will come out on Mondays, known as “Master Plan Monday.” There will be numerous opportunities for direct input and feedback as we work through the process. The Master Planning Website will be the main source of information on the project (SeabrookIslandMasterPlan.org) and will be updated on a regular basis. If you go to the website now, you will find FAQs with further information as well as additional background on KDC.

Easter Weekend Holiday Hours

Hippity-hop! Are you wondering why Easter is so early this year? Easter is always on a Sunday, but the exact date varies depending on the moon’s position in the early spring. Based on the lunar cycles, Easter is celebrated on the first Sunday following the full moon that occurs on or after the March or spring equinox. This year the equinox occurred on March 19 and the full moon on Monday, March 25, so Easter is on Sunday, March 31. Happy Easter!

HOLIDAY HOURS

Good Friday, March 29, Easter Sunday, March 31 and Easter Monday, April 1 are not federal holidays. All federal holidays are non-religious (except Christmas Day). Thus the Post Office, federal buildings, and most banks will be open on Friday and Monday. It is interesting to note that The New York Stock Exchange is closed for trading on Good Friday, March 29.

In addition, Easter is not a state holiday in South Carolina.

SIPOA and Town Offices will be open as usual.

The Lake House will be open all weekend, including Monday, with normal hours.

Harris Teeter, Vincent’s Drug Store, and Post and Computer Center will have normal hours. Click here for details.

Who Do You Call?

When there is a situation that requires some type of intervention or response, who do you call? Sometimes it is confusing because there are three entities on Seabrook Island: Town of Seabrook Island, Seabrook Island Property Owners Association, and Seabrook Island Club.

The Town of Seabrook Island (TOSI) is responsible for the beach below the high tide line. To protect public safety and preserve the beach’s natural beauty, the Town Council has adopted a comprehensive list of beach rules, including requirements for pets. The town also provides the Beach Patrol, which renders a variety of services. If any medical or other emergency, such as drowning, occurs on the beach, call 911. If you see a violation of beach rules, call or text the Beach Patrol at (843) 718-6083. (Please note that permission to have a bonfire on the beach must be obtained from SIPOA. Click here for the Beach Fire Permit Application.)

Seabrook Island Property Owners Association (SIPOA) is responsible for Gate Access control and SIPOA rules compliance. Please do not call the Gate House unless an immediate response is needed (843-768-6641). Examples include a noise disturbance, a nuisance or danger involving wildlife, or a tree or other obstacle on the road. Instead, contact the SIPOA offices at (843) 768-0061 from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm Monday through Friday or email publiccomment@sipoa.org. In the case of a medical or other emergency, call 911.

Seabrook Island Club is responsible for the Golf Courses, Racquet Club, Beach Club pools, and Equestrian Center. If you see a rules violation on a golf course, such as people putting after hours, individuals dropping balls and playing a hole or two, or children playing ball on a green or fairway, call the Club’s Security Personnel at (843) 991-8700. Provide them with the name of the course, hole number, and any other pertinent information. In the case of unauthorized vehicles on the course, call the Club’s Security Personnel. In addition, get the LSV license number so that the Club can look up the owner and reach them personally. At the Beach Club, members should bring any concern directly to the attention of staff in real-time so that they can address it immediately. In the case of a medical or other emergency, call 911.
